Build a paper Roman watchtower
Build a four-sided tower with windows, a door and a removable roof cap.
Suggested ages 7+ with adult help · Allow 45–75 minutes · 2 A4 pages
Print your template and guide
The first page contains the template or planning sheet; the final page has materials, making instructions and discussion ideas. Free for home and classroom use. Print single-sided in black and white. Print folding templates at actual size.

You will need
A4 light card, pencils, scissors, glue stick or tape, and a ruler.
Make it step by step
Colour the four wall panels and roof. Cut around the wall strip including its narrow joining tab.
Fold the three internal wall joins and the tab. Join the tab behind the first wall to make a square tube.
Cut the roof net. Fold its four lips down and tape the corners to make a shallow cap.
Place the roof on the tower. Compare the square walls and openings with a real fort or tower.
Tips and questions
The four walls are the same width. The roof centre is slightly wider, giving an overhang. Keep the tower open at the bottom. Draw extra details rather than cutting small window openings.
Connect it with Roman Britain
This is a small, simplified paper tower, not a measured reconstruction of a particular site. Roofs and towers varied across Roman military buildings.
Suggested ages are a guide. Read the instructions together and adapt the practical work to your learners. Ask an adult to help with cutting.
